How you can help us with gifts, time and money

Can you help us and would you like to become involved? That is great! As a general rule we say, “If you have it in your house then we would appreciate it.”

If you have domestic items that are in reusable condition please pass them to us. If you can bring things to us on Tuesday, Thursday or Friday mornings that is even better.

Apart from one full time, and eight part-time members of staff we are run entirely by volunteers so our abilities to collect items are limited as is our ability to do repairs.

The majority of our volunteers are drawn from the families that attend but the work requires a wide range of skills, so if you would like to offer to help please get in touch.

We especially always need new people for our reception desk on Tuesday mornings; and helpers to create Welcome Bags, Baby Bags, Christmas Bags and Toy Bags on Tuesday afternoons.

We can never have too many lifters and shifters to go out on the van delivering Furniture items at times to suit you!

We are often given items such as wooden furniture, bikes or electrical items that need minor repairs, if you have these skills we need you too.

The hidden costs of running a charity

Dear Friends and Supporters
Recently I brought you the fantastic news about the BIG Lottery Reaching Communities’ grant, for which we are VERY grateful. This will pay for 3 new members of staff who will enable us to reach and help even more needy families, more quickly than ever.
However, news like this takes the focus off the hidden costs of running a charity like Carriers of Hope. Costs like the staple food items that we buy each week to go into our free “shop”; nappies for the babies; renting the space to meet with the families; keeping the warehouse lit and warm; reimbursing the bus fares for all our client-volunteers; keeping the van on the road; responding to the many phone calls we deal with each day…….and so it goes on!
Based on our experience we know that we need at least £20,000 each year to cover these hidden costs.

The hidden costs of running a charity
Circle of Friends – rice/ potatoes/ nappies/ bread/milk £100 per week £4,000.00
Renting the space to run Circle of Friends £1,800.00
Warehouse running costs Heating, lighting, Water etc £3,600.00
Client-Volunteer travel costs reimbursed £5,000.00
To keep the van on the road for collections and deliveries £300 per month £3,600.00
Phone, to take all the calls re donations and to contact families re deliveries. £1,200.00
Staff Travel to carry out home-visits £100 per month £1,200.00
TOTAL £20,400.00

At this point in time we have regular income from our wonderful group of Standing Order Supporters of just over 50% of this amount.
If we could create an army of 100 extra Standing Order Supporters, giving £8 per month, our hidden costs would be covered.
If you are willing to join this army of supporters please text Sue on 07963 058958 and she will send you details of our bank account, to set up the standing orders.
